We had the pleasure of covering Katy & Dave's Wedding that could not be on such a beautiful day. The weather was perfect. The day started out at the Brides house. Big thanks for Adrian for coming out with us and starting his coverage with the guys. His pictures will be added into this post soon.

Also want to thank Frank for coming and meeting us at the church to add more coverage for the day. We will also post some of his shots from the day and add to this post later this week.

Dan, Adrian & Frank headed downtown to UofT to take some shots of the Bridal Party before heading to the reception.

Don't want to show you too much only after one day after the wedding, but wanted to give you a simple summary of the day and we will add a couple more shots from the other photographers point of view from your awesome Wedding. Life In A Flash Photography | Toronto Royal York Hotel Wedding

We were blessed to been able to capture the wedding of Heather & Jim recently. The day was perfect weather wise. Heather & Jim picked a great Toronto venue to hold a wedding ceremony and reception. They held it at the Toronto Fairmont Royal York Hotel and we took pictures around the hotel and over at Toronto's High Park and down by the waterfront.

Here are some pictures that make up the day they had. Currently the couple is on their honeymoon.

The women got ready in the Hotel. Pink Twig Floral Boutique did the flowers for the wedding and they did an awesome job.

The talented Toronto Make-Up Artist, Tara McPeake did the make-up for Heather.

The reception was on the top floor of the Hotel. Innovations by Designs did the decor of the room and it was elegant and romantic. They are awesome!

Heather and Jim, thank you so much for letting us capture your wedding. The day was perfect.

Life In A Flash Photography | Sunny Day Wedding

We had an awesome day for a wedding between Terri & Chris. The weather was great and could not asked for more of a perfect day. Dan & Adrian photographed the wedding between them. Adrian started out with the guys, and Dan started out with the ladies. Here is some shots for the day...

Chris Mom was stunning.

During the night, Chis went over to Terri's parents home where she was sleep and laid out some flowers she would see in the morning on her way out the door to her hair appointment to Valentino's in Whitby where all the ladies got their hair done for the day.

The ladies make up was done by a friend of Terri's.

All the flowers were done by Bridal Blooms by Laura.

Terri's sister Karen helped her into her dress.

The ceremony was held at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Whitby with Rev. Godofredo Ragasa Claudio performed the ceremony. Terri looked stunning in her dress as she came down the isle.

Chris watched her as she came up the isle.

After the ceremony, we headed into Toronto to take some family and bridal party shots at The University Of Toronto - Scarborough Campus, where they both went to school.

Above are some Bricks in the walkway that represent the school.

After shooting some shots of Terri & Chris, we headed back to Durham Region for the reception. They held their reception at the Ajax Convention Center, which was outstanding. It was our first wedding held there and it is such a great venue. The service & food were awesome and it provided an intimate venue to hold a reception in Durham Region. They played a slide show of our engagement session while guests arrived and mingled until it was time to let the guest enter their beautiful room. We can't wait to be back there soon.

Also Jean from Two Hearts Wedding Services provided the Day of Coordination. She did a great job at making sure everything ran smoothly. Her and her two staff made the day & night a success.

Their cake was created by Sugar Chalet in Oshawa, who did an awesome job.

Brianna was escorted in by Joseph & Wade, who was putting on the moves as the guests cheered.

They both looked stunning coming into the Ballroom as Husband & Wife.

After the first dance, the evening rolled along into the night where everyone had a blast toasting Terri & Chris during dinner.

Later in the evening they hired a Miriachi Band to come out and perform. This was the second time we have seen this Band perform and they are incredible.

Chris had to get up and sing with the band.

Then it was time to start dancing and Skip A Beat was the DJ that we have attended quite a few weddings together. They do an excellent job, and cover all of Durham Region & the GTA.

Thank you so much for allowing us to photograph your wedding. We had a blast on such a beautiful hot day in August. You are so much fun to photograph, since you are so much in love. Chris, you are a very lucky man... you have a beautiful sweet wife to cherish like Terri.

Life In A Flash Photography | Ajax Summer Wedding

What a beautiful day for a wedding, and after shooting this couple twice in the countryside in the winter and then down in the Distillery District in Toronto for another photoshoot. This past Saturday, the day has finally come to photograph their wedding, which turned out to be a bright, hot sunny day that was perfect. Teri & Scott are a super cute couple that is so much in love, and it was so much fun to hang out with them all day.

Therefore, please enjoy some pictures of the day.

The make-up was provided by Tanya Gunovski from ReVamped, which did a great job on all the ladies.

The ceremony & reception was held at Deer Creek Golf Club in Ajax, which is a great place to get married and celebrate in Durham Region. Joanne McClory from www.idoweddingcelebrations.com was the Ceremony Officiant and she did an excellent job. She is such a sweet woman.

After the ceremony we headed over to a old farmers bard to use as a backdrop for some pictures before the ceremony.

The grass was tall, and all the ladies were troopers with moving around and doing anything we asked of them. (Special thanks to the homeowner for letting us photograph on their property. Teri & Scott thank you!)

We then headed back to Deer Creek for the reception and the party went into the night to celebrate the wonderful day.

Again, what a wonderful day and thanks for letting us hang out with you and capture as it happens. Thanks to Adrian who came out to assist with this wedding.

They day started off at the King Edward Hotel in Toronto, where they both got ready. After the King Edward Hotel, we went over to Vertical that is located at First Canadian place which is a very unique Toronto Wedding Venue that can put together a great event for the ceremony & reception.

Sarah & Kevin got married on a beautiful day. They both are a great couple that is so much in love. It was so nice to be able to hang around with you all day and take pictures as things unfolded. Sarah was stunning and sexy in her Maggie Sottero dress. Dan and Adrian photographed this wedding and the day started off with the guys getting ready and the ladies got ready at the Residence Inn Marriott in Whitby, which is a great place to get ready. Shelly Burns was the certified Make-Up Artist who covers the GTA did an awesome job and all the ladies were stunning. Valentino's Hair Salon in Whitby was the venue that provided all the "wedding hair" for the ladies.

The ceremony was held outside at Deer Creek Golf Club in Ajax. They have a great outdoor wedding venue that is perfect for summer weddings outside. Amanda Gordon looked after this event and everything was running smoothly the entire day. Stephanie Smith from Sight and Sound provided the music at the ceremony as well as being the MC and DJ at the reception at Deer Creek later in the evening.

We have to thank the home owner who we asked to shoot on their property after the ceremony. They have a beautiful old Barn that was the perfect backdrop for some bridal pictures and some pictures of Sarah and Kevin. Thanks so much for allowing us to use your property. We are looking forward to coming out again to your home to take some pictures of the Old Barn for you and we also invite you to some complementary outdoor family fall photo shoots. Those who follow our blog will notice this was the 3rd time we have visited this old barn.

Kevin is a firefighter, so he was able to borrow an old Fire Truck to take some pictures along a tree lined road in north Whitby.

The reception was at Deer Creek, which is a romantic place to hold a reception. We love photographing weddings there and the food and service are excellent. This wedding had a buzz to it, and the guests were really into having a good time. Lots of dancing, laughing and hugging. It was a great night for Sarah and Kevin.

Thank you so much for allowing to photograph your wedding. Special thanks to Adrian for covering the entire day and getting some excellent shots. Best wishes to you both on a long life with each other. We are looking forward to the "Day After" photo shoot with you both this fall.

"What can we RAVE about Dan? Everything! We, Matthew and I, are from the United States (Indiana just out side of Chicago) and we had to do all the research and book everything in Toronto via the internet. Matthew loved his website and most importantly the photo story. On the very next day after we arrived in Toronto we met up with him for lunch (Thanks for lunch again Dan :) ) which was the first day we actually really met him in person. I don't know if you saw, but I posted a bunch of my non-pro pics on WB yesterday. The difference between pro and non-pro pictures is immeasurable. I would tell anyone who would listen to ALWAYS go for a professional photographer because they will catch details that none of your guests will! Case in point, none of my friends' pictures showed the beading on my dress, and you captured it perfectly in several pictures. I'm also really pleased that we didn't get "cookie-cutter" photos from you. I don't know much about the technical terms for composition, but what you were able to achieve that no other photographer we met with could is a certain kind of depth of interest to your photos.... where you can look at them over and over and still see something new. Very cool.

Marie & Mark's Wedding

Dan's been swamped and he wanted me to post some pictures of his last scheduled wedding of the year and to tag some links to some of the great vendors at the wedding. Tamara Inkpen from My Sweet Wedding Co. referred her to some great vendors.

Marie was holding her ceremony and reception at Royal Ashburn in Whitby. Royal Ashburn is a great place to get married in Durham. Dan loves to shoot there. Karey from Kake Creations did an awesome job on the cake. Joanna Jordan played the harp during the ceremony and afterwards when the guest were mingling during family photo's. Dan mentioned to me that it was nice for him to finally meet both Karey & Joanna in person.

Carolina & Michael's Wedding - Graydon Hall Manor - Nov 2nd, 2008

I had the pleasure of photographing a beautiful wedding at Graydon Hall Manor. This venue is outstanding. Grenville Pino was awesome on the Violin during the ceremony and for guests upstairs. Ian Tam was the DJ for the night and I enjoyed his style of music for mingling and during dinner.

What a great place to hold a wedding and be surrounded by the people that you love. The wedding was Sunday evening, so the day started out with Carolina arriving at the Manor and getting ready. Michael also arrived with the guys and also got ready down the hall from the ladies.

Here are some shots of the day. The room for the ceremony and later for dinner was romantic and many of the shots I selected for the blog post were shot with no flash. I wanted to capture the lighting and also the movement of others inside the room. After the ceremony, it was too dark to go outside on the grounds, so we wondered around the Manor looking for little nooks and crannies to shoot in.

Carolina's Son, Danillo was very handsome in his tux.

Carolina's Father hired a Mariachi Band to come into the room and suprise Carolina and Michael.

Carolina loved what her Father did for her...

Behind The Image

At Julie & Adam's wedding a while back... the sky opened up and it rained hard. Everyone hit for the large Tent to get out of the rain.

Someone mentioned to me that I have to go see the kids playing in the puddles. Here was a couple of kids with rented tux's playing in the puddles.

It was a sight to see. Kids being kids. Boys being boys.

First Dances - The Collection

I was posting some pictures on a private wedding photography forum of some shots capture of first dances.

Sometimes I wait and watch people's camera's for flashing red lights that the flash is going to go off and play around with flash bulbs.

I love when the bride & groom are really into each other and focused on the song and each others movements.

Usually in first dances, the couple has a chance to talk alone. To speak softly to each other at how the day has unfolded.

As a photographer, it's nice when the couple also soaks in the moment and enjoys their first dance as Husband & Wife. It's nice to capture those moments also.

I also like to shoot some and show the movement of the dance and without flash to show the romantic side to the venue and the song.

If you have seen me at weddings, when the dance starts... I like to find a corner of the dance floor and lie down on the floor on my side to get some shots looking up at the couple.

www.lifeinaflash.ca has new music: Birds of Wales

Birds of Wales is a group from Toronto that we found that is creating buzz with their intimate concerts on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean.

A melding of Folk with Indie Rock, Birds of Wales' sound has evoked comparisions to Coldplay, Wilco, Ryan Adams & Belle & Sebastian.

You can also find them here on myspace. We fell in love with their music and I asked Morgan Ross who plays lead vocals and guitar if we could use their music on our website. He graciously allowed us to feature their music along with our photos on our website. Thank you so much, Morgan!

My Lady in July is playing right now as the first song. You will see a spinning record in the bottom left corner of the website, where you can flip to the next song and adjust the volume.

On Nov 6th, 2008 you can catch Birds of Wales at the Tattoo Rock Parlour where they will be headlining. Go out and catch their show and enjoy the music they play. I had a chance to sit down with Morgan from the group and he is a great guy. I've listened to their current CD and it's awesome. I'm looking forward to getting a copy of their new album that they recorded this past summer out in Vancouver.

We definitely have to catch one of their concerts live. You should check them out online and take a listen. Their album can be purchased on itunes & amazon.ca

We had the pleasure of capturing the wedding of Nicole & Chris that was held at Deer Creek Golf Club in Ajax. What a great day to get married! The day started off capturing the women at the Ajax Hilton & Convention Centre. We then moved to Deer Creek. After the ceremony, we found a local farmhouse that we shot at after knocking on the door. Little did we know that inside the barn was awesome to shoot in.

I'm shooting a wedding today and I'm posting this on wifi from a coffee shop waiting to start my coverage for the day... The wedding today is at a great church on the Kingsway... then it's off to Atlantis at Ontario Place for the reception. Tomorrow morning... we are off to Niagara Falls with the kids for a night and we are home on Monday evening... Looking at the calandar... the year is almost over. This Saturday, I'm shooting a very cool wedding for Crystal and Lindsey, who is getting married at a really cool church on the Kingsway, then it's off to Atlantis for their reception. After that wedding we are heading to Niagara for a couple of days. On Aug 2nd, I have a really cool wedding for Vanessa & Jason that I'm looking forward to. Aug 8th brings me to Sunnybrook for a wedding for Louise & Michael. Later in the month is the wedding for Chris & Nicole at Deer Creek in Ajax followed by Alison's wedding the next day up north. Kristina's wedding closes the month on the 31st. In September, my weddings fall on the 12th, 13th and 20th. October brings Laura's wedding on Oct 25th, but I have interest for 3 more dates for Oct and a couple of dates in November.

I'm looking to add some family shots, trash the dress sessions and day after shoots on the open days left in the year and into the fall.

I'll be online tonight after 10pm.

Emma & Matt's Wedding - June 21st, 2008

I had the pleasure of photographing Emma & Matt's wedding this past Saturday in Port Hope. The day was perfect. Mike Gibson came along with me for the day to shoot with me and we both made the drive out to Port Hope, and it turned into one of the best wedding celebrations ever.

Mike started with the guys and I started with the ladies who were getting ready at Emma's parents home backing onto a ravine. What a beautiful backdrop for getting ready and everyone was everywhere. All of the pictures below are from my camera, and are resized for easy loading.

Below is a gift to the ladies for being in the bridal party.

The ceremony was held at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church in downtown Port Hope on Walton Street. Rev. David McBride performed the ceremony in this beautiful church.

After the ceremony everyone headed over to Trinity College School, where a large tent was located beside the school and that provided the backdrop for a great celebration for family & friends. The flowers were done by Holton Flowers from Port Hope and they did an outstanding job. Also, the flower arrangements that were put together were so cool. They were put together with the help of family & friends right before the weekend. I have never seen so many flowers decorate a wedding.

Lady Kane was the band performing and they did a great job. The performed the song for the couples first dance and then got the people moving on the dance floor.

Congratulations to you both! Have fun in Europe for your honeymoon. I wanted to thank you, the bridal party and your families for making us feel so welcome. It was such a pleasure to cover your wedding.

Rebecca & Justin's Wedding - June 14th, 2008

I had the pleasure to capture a wedding for two wonderful people. They had their wedding and reception at Burleigh Island Lodge, located north of Peterborough in Burleigh Falls. What a great place to get married and it was such a beautiful day.

Rebecca & Justin had a romantic ceremony outside with close family & friends. Afterwards we headed down to the lake to take some pictures, before many of the other guests arrived for the reception.

Rebecca looked stunning in her dress, and everyone had a blast!

When photographing weddings... there comes a time that the people that surround the Bride & Groom want to rush to them and congratulate them on getting married. Here is a collection of photographs that I have captured that shows this...

(Below) What I like about this one is Morgan and her stance that tells how she is feeling for Karen as she hugs someone in the bridal party.

(Below) I love watching Grandma's approach the bride. They hold them, talk to them and are moved at the sight they have witnessed.

I looked down and noticed that he was holder her hand...

I had the opportunity to get in the car and drive up a little past Peterborough to shoot some engagements for Rebecca & Justin at a family farm.

I decided to bring my assistant with me, so I brought my daughter for the ride up there and we packed her Janet Jackson CD and her markers for the backseat and we headed up north.

Jennifer & Tony - May 31st, 2008

I had the pleasure of photographing the wedding of Jennifer & Tony. They were married at Eagles Nest Golf Club, which is a great venue to get married at. The weather the day before looked like it was going to rain all day.

Here are some shots from the day:

Tony gave Jennifer some beautiful earings.

Al Fortier from Sheer Minerals did a great job on the ladies hair

Jennifer's dress was stunning.

Jennifer's cousin is a make-up artist and she did the make-up. All the ladies looked beautiful.

You could look in the sink and see everyone was ready to celebrate.

The venue was Eagles Nest Golf Club, and it's great for indoor & outdoor ceremonies. The Bridal suite in the Loft is great for getting ready and relaxing before the ceremony.

These little girls were decked out with cute dresses from JCrew.

The music before and after the ceremony was performed by one of Toronto's finest. Wellington Music did a great job at setting the mood.

Tony went over to his Grandmother before the ceremony to greet her. This started Tony's emotions.

Here is the guests waiting for the ceremony to start. You can see the women up in the balcony in the Loft waiting to come down.

I could hear one of the loudest "I love you", I have ever heard from a Father to his daughter.

Rev. Gordon Kushner was excellent. Many of the guests commented about him and the great job he did as I was shooting some mingle shots afterwards.

Everyone had such a great time at this wedding. I want to thank Frank Chang from Xpressive Studio for coming out and shooting with me. You can view his blog post here. He got some great shots and I'll post some of his dancing shots with the parents below:

Suprise Proposal

I wanted to blog about how exciting it would be to capture a proposal. If anyone knows any men that are in a serious relationship and they are thinking about asking the woman they love to marry them... let them know that I would love to capure it.

I could be across the street, across the room... I would love to capture that moment, which is very special.

An idea that you could do is book me for a photoshoot. You could tell her that you would love to do a photoshoot with her and the 3 of us could go to a neat place. Then when you have the guts... you can do your thing and suprise her and I would be there to capture it. So if you or anyone you know might be popping the question this summer... please drop me a line.

Luke Walker, who is a photographer asked another incredible photographer to do a photo shoot with Luke and his girlfriend. Jessica captured it and if you want to read about it and see the shots they took, you can see them here.

I had the pleasure of covering the wedding of Anishka & Jeff on May 18th, 2008. The wedding & reception was held at Oakview Terrace in Richmond Hill. What a great venue with the outdoor chapel.

The weather was looking like rain for the entire day. Five minutes before the bride arrived at Oakview, the rain stopped and it didn't rain again till the reception started.

Marg & David's Wedding

I'm excited to be shooting Marg & David's wedding later this year on August 15th in Kitchener/Waterloo.

The ceremony will be held at a unique venue, and will be my first wedding photographed in this area. They will be getting married at the Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery, which will provide a stunning background for this private event. They will then move to historic Benjamin's in St. Jacob for their celebration dinner.

I'm very excited and looking forward to the day!

Behind The Image (The story...)

I thought I would take the time and post one shot and talk about the story behind the image. It will allow me to revisit weddings, engagement and event shoots and talk a little about some of the images that I have photographed.

Here is a image I shot at Kelly & Mickey's Wedding a while back. This is them leaving the church and while I was waiting to shoot the wedding party coming out after them... I noticed them leaving out the door and it looked really neat.

Afterwards, it's a neat shot of them... since to me... it's like they are walking together into a new life together as a couple. (I should write for Hallmark!)

Behind The Image

This montage is made up of 942 images from the wedding that make up this one shot. The story behind this shot is after the wedding, we were waiting around to go shoot some shots and the Bride & Groom were taking a break and the Bride was having a smoke. I lifted up the camera like I was going to take a shot of her having a cig just as a joke... and she said... "Don't! I don't want my Mom to see that shot". Then she said... "Take it."

When making the montage, the smoking shot is inside the montage and I always wondered if her Mother has seen it? I also like how her Dad's head is her ring. This is a cool shot if you have it large and you walk backwards and view it from far away... then as you get closer you can see all the little shots that make it up.

The Speeches - The Collection

I love shooting speaches at weddings. It allows me to try and capture a moment of laughter, heart-felt thanks, sadness through the passing of a loved one, rememberance, joy and embarasement when someone is roasted.

It allows me to get down low and sneak around to get people without noticing. You can move around tables, duck down low in front or behind the head table, sit in someone's empty seat and shoot the guests watching & listening.

One wedding I went to I set up a tripod in front of the head table and I had a wireless remote I could fire my camera. I was testing it out and I noticed the bride & a bridesmaid at the table talking before the dinner got started.

Each time I noticed the bride look towards the camera... I pushed the button. After a couple of shots, she was wondering why it took a picture when she looked at it.

Then I noticed she was telling her bridesmaid that the camera goes off when you look at it... so they did a pose and the camera fired (there is me in the background without them noticing I am pressing the remote)

They did 4 or so poses and I called out to them and they turned around and I showed them the remote.

I laughed at their reaction and had to shoot one more...

Later in the night I was able to shoot a shot when the bride had her guard down & forgets there is a camera on her. My sugestion to any couple at a wedding... just keep looking and listening to the speaches... forget there is any camera's on you... those are the best pictures.

I try and get the two people in range if they are talking about one another. Here a groom is trying to put into words on what his brother means to him.
